I decided to share a little from my experience on career path, I call it checklist for an Ideal work environment
I got a few DMs recently around this topic, especially from those who know me well as I used to give public speeches and address way back.
As a Practicing mechanical engineer , I love what I do and down my career line both administrative and technical I came along lots of work environment settings and experiences that has built my concept.
CHECKLIST FOR AN IDEAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Are you new in the corperate world?, are you seeking a path in it??, are you a veteran in the work environment or office space.
Then here are a few questions you need to ask yourself before you accept that job or continue your old job.
✍🏽 Is remuneration fair❓:
This is a critical question you must self-ask, Not just money but also other benefits eg healthcare packages, pension and gratuity, mortgage, insurance, credit and loan, bonuses, personal time off,
✍🏽 Is the Job Flexible❓:
Is there work-life balance, Is there a chance for growth, are there opportunities for creative ideas and skillset
✍🏽 Is the Career Path Clear❓:
Do they promise increment and promotions but fail to do as such, did your employment letter state your role, if yes is your job role as stated in your scope of work, are you adding value with your current role, is your impact noticed.
If a bunch of your answer to these questions are non affirmative then you really need to get back to the drawing board.
✍🏽 Is your Opportunity to Grow at that Organization Feasible❓:
Do they provide trainings, do skills acquired on the job become helpful in future, are you delegated new tasks from time to time which will help shape and build your skills. Well you already know something is at stake if you this isn’t the case.
✍🏽Is your Line Manager Good❓:
He doesn’t need to be Santa clause but does he/she have empathy, Can you look up to them for mentorship, are their boundaries healthy for you, Do they always want to micromanage you.
✍🏽Is office politics Becoming a Norm❓:
Are people paying lip service rather than doing the job, are you getting caught in the middle for someone elses errors, negligence and recalcitrance just because they are the special breeds, Are you pleasing the boss rather than doing your job.
Mark my note, you will never go far, go high or last long if this is the case.
✍🏽Is Respect Served on the Table❓:
Are you respected, are your opinions, suggestions and feedback taking to note or even listened to, is communication effective, You should know when to quit the table or back out else you would be looked upon as a mere peasant.
Feel free to hit me a DM if you need reviews or you have questions you’ll like to ask.
