BAYERO UNIVERSITY GRADUATING STUDENT BUILD SOLAR TRICYCLE

Students from Bayero university kano Build solar powered tricycle

A group of graduating students from bayero universitymade headlines when they constructed and designed a
solar powered tricycle for people living with paraplegia speaking for the team Abdulmateen Yusuf said the idea to take up the work amongst several others were due to the alarming high level of paraplegia observed in the metropolis as this people who were either physically disabled by birth, through accidents or even the polio virus were exposed day in day out to danger while going about their daily routine, thus the drive and
inspiration towards the research work. The idea was also to make a user friendly, affordable
and safe machine,as it has no exhaust and does not release Waist to the environment as it is a green energy
driving system and has no effect or what so-ever in causing pollution to the environment unlike the
vehicles powered by diesel or fuel,he added.

Muhammad Usman the team leader commented that the work was aimed at not just solving a problem but
attaining perfection to solving the problem, he added that the project was designed putting to
consideration three main factors which included design for aesthetics, design for ergonomics and design for
safety.
Abdul Yakin usman also added that bachelor thesis in colleges and universities shouldn't be aimed at not just
passing grades but also solve societal problems as observed that the world is fast changing due to
industrialization and globalization thus the need to be dynamic at bridging gap between industries and
academia.
The research was quite hectic as obtaining components and materials were quite difficult and some
even unattainable locally which gave the inspiration to improvise when incorperating some of the parts added
Suraj Danjuma.
Major component used were a pair of photo-voltaic cell or solar pannels, set of batteries, motors but to
mention a few which were responsible in powering the trike Mathew tuku commented.
The group reiterated that they were grateful to the faculty and their supervisors in the department for
allowing them proof their worth. We would like to say thanks to Dr mahdi mokoyo and Mal Muhammad garb for their tireless efforts towards the completion of the
project work added sunday olakanmi.
